India's first Centre for Animal Law set up at NALSAR

India's first Centre for Animal Law has been established at NALSAR University of Law of Hyderabad.
It was inaugurated by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi

India's first Centre for Animal Law set up at NALSAR

  • Humane Society International, India and NALSAR University will work together to steer and coordinate the activities of the centre.
  • HSI-India Managing Director N G Jayasimha was appointed as the honorary director of the Centre.
  • This entre will create curriculum on animal welfare laws, including developing topics for research. 
  • Workshops will be organised on animal laws and animal welfare issues with judicial magistrates, animal welfare advocates, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders in the government.

  • National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) is a legal studies institution located in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established in 1998 by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly (Act 34 of 1998) by the state of Andhra Pradesh
  • It was the second National Law University to be instituted in India. 
  • It was ranked second in India by The Week's "Top Law Colleges In 2017"
  • It was ranked fourth by Careers360's "Top Law Colleges in India 2017"
