Operation Insaniyat: India to Send Relief to Rohingya Refugees
  • The operation is called Insaniyat.
  • Bangladesh is facing the humanitarian crisis on account of the large influx of refugees
  • India is sending basic amenities that the refugees are in urgent need of at the moment. 
  • These things include rice, pulses, sugar, salt, cooking oil, tea, ready to eat noodles, biscuits, mosquito nets etc..
  • The relief material consists of items required urgently by the affected people, namely rice, pulses, sugar, salt, cooking oil, tea, ready to eat noodles, biscuits, mosquito nets etc. 
  • The relief material will be delivered in multiple consignments
  • Bangladesh has urged the International community to come up with urgent humanitarian assistance to help the country
  • In the last two weeks 300,000 Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh taking the total number of Myanmar nationals currently living here to 700,000 from 400,000.

What is Rohingya Influx?

  • Around 40,000 Muslims fled to Bangladesh in order to save their lives after voilence erupted in Rakhine Province of Myanmar.
  • Rohingya Militants belonging to Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, also known by its former name Harakah al-Yaqin attacked a police post in Rakhine state.
  • To deal with the attack, Military launched a voilent operation that leads to the exodus of Rohingya Muslins into Bangladesh.
