According to Platts Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings of the year, India's Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has become world’s third-biggest energy company.
- The first and second places are secured by Russian gas firm Gazprom and German utility E.ON respectively.
- China Petroleum & Chemical and Russia’s PJSC Lukoil secured the fifth rank and sixth rank respectively.
- Indian Oil Corp (IOC) climbed to 7th position
- Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) secured the 11th rank.
- Overall 14 Indian energy companies have secured places in the ranking.
- Some other Indian firms in the ranking include Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (39), Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (48), Power Grid Corp (81) and GAIL India Ltd (106).
- South Korea’s Korea Electric Power is ranked 4th
- The annual Top 250, published by S&P Global Platts, ranks companies based on financial performance using four key metrics: asset worth, revenues, profits, and return on invested capital.
