George Saunders Wins 2017 Man Booker Prize

US author George Saunders has won Man Booker Prize 2017 for his first full-length novel Lincoln in the Bardo.


  • He became only the second American writer to win Britain’s renowned Man Booker Prize
  • The book chronicles the death of Abraham Lincoln’s 11-year-old son Willie using the accounts of hundreds of narrators.
  • This year’s Man Booker Prize shortlist pitted three US and three British writers against one another. 
  • Last year Paul Beatty became the first American to win the award for his novel The Sellout. 
  • Man Booker Prize is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel, written in the English language and published in the UK.
  • It is also a mark of distinction for authors to be selected for inclusion in the shortlist or even to be nominated for the "longlist".
