Globally eulogized Indian-origin South African couple, Salim Abdool Karim and Quarraisha Abdool Karim has bagged the prestigious award by the Institute of Human Virology (IHV)

 Indian Origin Couple Bags Top US Award

  • The couple was awarded for the exceptional contribution to the field of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment
  • Salim is a CAPRISA Professor for Global Health in the Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. 
  • He serves as the Director of the Centre for the AIDS Program of Research in South Africa at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban
  • The couple is involved in the development of innovative ways of preventing HIV in women. 
  • Both of them are professors of epidemiology at Columbia University in New York
  • They received the award from the Institute of Human Virology (IHV) in Baltimore in the US.
  • The award was presented to them by Robert Gallo, who discovered HIV as the cause of AIDS, at the 19th international meeting of the IHV.
