Every year October 15th is celebrated as International day for rural women to recognise the contribution made by rural women
- 2017 Theme: “Challenges and opportunities in climate-resilient agriculture for gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls”
- The first International Day of Rural Women was observed on 15 October 2008.
- This day recognizes “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.”
World Food Day: 16 October 2017
- World Food Day is celebrated on 16 October in honour of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945.
- The day is celebrated by organisations concerned with food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
- World Food Day (WFD) was established by FAO's Member Countries at the Organization's 20th General Conference in November 1979.
- Theme 2017: Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development.
- It is also now considered as Food Engineers’ Day.
