The Department of Post launched Sampoorna Bima Gram Yojana yesterday.
- DoP has also expanded the coverage of Postal Life Insurance to professionals.
- This expansion is a part of efforts to bring affordable life insurance services to people and promote financial inclusion.
- Minimum of one village will be taken up in each of the districts of the country to cover all households of the village with at least one Rural Postal Life Insurance policy each.
- Under the scheme for expansion of clientele base of PLI, benefits of Postal Life Insurance (PLI) will no more be confined to government and semi-government employees, but will also be available to professionals such as doctors, engineers, management consultants, charted accountants, architects, lawyers, bankers and to employees of listed companies of NSE (National Stock Exchange) and BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange).
Postal Life Insurance
- Postal Life Insurance (PLI) was introduced on 1st February, 1884
- In 1894, PLI extended insurance cover to female employees of P & T Department at a time when no other insurance company covered female lives.
- It is the oldest life insurer in this country.
