The Economist's Safe Cities Index 2017: Delhi Ranks 63

The Economist has released the Safe City Index 2017 in which 60 cities were accessed.


  • India's Delhi is at 43rd rank while Mumbai secured 45th rank in the index.
  • The first five spots were secured by Tokyo, Singapore, Osaka, Toronto and Melbourne.
  • The bottom five cities are: Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Dhaka, Yagon.
  • Karachi is at the last place i.e. 60.
  • The Safe Cities Index 2017 is a report from The Economist Intelligence Unit sponsored by NEC.
  •  The report is based on the second iteration of the index, which ranks 60 cities across 49 indicators covering digital security, health security, infrastructure security and personal security.
  • Safe Cities Index measures relative rather than absolute safety
