48th International Film Festival of India Begins in Goa

48th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) began at Goa's capital Panaji.


  • Shah Rukh Khan inaugurated the festival at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim.
  • The Festival commenced with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's film, "Beyond The Clouds"
  • The focus country this year is Canada.
  • Eight Canadian films will be screened during the event


Highlights of the Event

 195 films from over 82 countries of which there will be 10 World Premieres will be presented in the event.
The event will showcase the fils of Indian film industry veterans who have passed away in the last as a tribute.
Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with the Indian film personality of the year.
The International Competition section of IFFI 2017 that carries a cumulative cash prize of over Rs. One crore  will present15 of the finest films of this year, competing for the Golden and Silver Peacock awards.
The first feature film to be screened as part of the Indian panorama is Pihu.

  • The International Film Festival of India (IFFI)was founded in 1952
  • The 1st edition of IFFI was organised by the Films Division, Government of India, with the patronage of the first Prime Minister of India
  • It was first held in Mumbai
  • Since 2004, Goa has hosted IFFI every year.
