Lok Sabha Appoints First Woman Secretary General

Snehlata Shrivastava has become the  first woman secretary general of the Lok Sabha

  • She will assume charge on 1 December. 
  • Her tenure will end on 30 November, 2018.
  • She will replace Anup Mishra 
  • She has worked as a joint secretary in the  law ministry.
  •  She has also worked with the finance ministry.
  • Rama Devi holds the distinction of the being the first woman secretary general of the Rajya Sabha.

What is Lok Sabha or Parliament of India?

  • Lok Sabha is composed of representatives of the people chosen by direct election on the basis of the adult suffrage. 
  • The maximum strength of the House envisaged by the Constitution is 552, which is made up by election of upto 530 members to represent the States, upto 20 members to represent the Union Territories and not more than two members of the Anglo-Indian Community to be nominated by the Hon'ble President,
