Pradeep Singh Kharola appointed as Air India Chairman

IAS officer Pradeep Singh Kharola has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India


  • He will replace Rajiv Bansal, who has been serving as the interim CMD for a little over three months.
  • Presently Mr. Kharola is the Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.
  • Kharola has a PhD in public transport systems from IIT, Delhi
  • He was principal secretary to the chief minister of Karnataka in 2013.

B. N. Sharma named chairman of GST Anti-Profiteering Authority


  • The government has appointed the chairman and members of the Anti-Profiteering Authority to ensure that the benefit of reductions in the tax burden under the goods and services tax (GST) reaches consumers
  • B.N. Sharma appointed as the chairman of the authorit
  • The members of the authority who are selected from the tax administration or from tax tribunals are J.C. Chauhan, Bijay Kumar, C.L. Mahar and R. Bhagyadevi.
  • The body will ensure that revenue forgone by way of tax reduction, which impacts the state’s ability to spend on development, goes to the intended beneficiary.
  • The authority has a standing committee at the national level and state-level panels which will accept complaints from consumers. 
  • The watchdog will be assisted by the Directorate General of Safeguards in the central government for investigations into suspected cases of profiteering.
