UC Browser Removed From Google Play Store

Published on November 15, 2017
Alibaba owned UC Browser has been removed from the Google Play Store.
UC Browser was temporarily removed from play store for 30 days because it used "Misleading" and "Unhealthy" methods of promotion to increase installs.

  • UC Browser is a popular alternative to Google Chrom in India.
  • UC Browser became India’s favourite mobile browser.
  • In addition, it is the sixth most downloaded Android app in India.
  • A report claimed that UC Browser was stealing sensitive user data and sending it back to remote servers in China without the user’s consent.
  • A widespread investigation into data security by Indian government officials expressed concerns that the UC Browser app continues to collect this data after it has been uninstalled
  • At present there is no evidence to either confirm or deny these suspicions and both Google and UCWeb are yet to comment on the situation
