World Economic Forum’s (WEF) has released its Global Gender Gap Index in which India has slipped 21 places.
- India is ranked 108 due to less participation of women in the economy and low wages.
- According to the WEF Global Gender Gap Report 2017, India has closed 67% of its gender gap, less than many of its international peers
- Iceland has topped the index and becomes world’s most gender-equal country for nine years.
- The Global Gender Gap Report standardise 144 countries on their progress towards gender parity across four thematic dimensions: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment.
- In addition, this year’s edition also analyses the dynamics of gender gaps across industry talent pools and occupations.
