Y.C. Modi has taken the charge of National Investigation Agency (NIA) as its new Director-General.

  • He a 1984-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer.
  • Modi succeeds Sharad Kumar.
  • He has worked with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for 10 years
  • He had worked with Cabinet Secretariat between 1991 and 2002 
  •  He has worked as Additional Director of CBI
  • He was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 200.
  • He was conferred with the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in the year 2008


About National Investigation Agency


  • NIA is India's premier anti-terror organisation.
  • It acts as the Central Counter-Terrorism Law Enforcement Agency. 
  • It came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 on 31 December 2008.
  • NIA was created after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks
