Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for A New India (DARPAN) project was launched by Minister of Communication Manoj Sinha.
Aim of the Project
The 1400-crore project is aimed at recognising financial inclusion of un-banked rural population. Under thing project, each Branch Post Master will be provided with a low-power technology solution to improve delivery services. Approximately 1.29 lakhs branch post offices (BOs) will be covered. Currently 43,171 branch post offices have migrated under the DARPAN project which is targeted to complete the project by March 2018.What services does DARPAN offer?
Core banking services like cash deposit in savings bank (SB) and recurring deposit (RD), withdrawal from savings bank, new account opening for SB and RD, higher value withdrawal, mini statement, Aadhaar seeding and daily transaction report are offered by DARPANFuture Prospectus
The authorities will try to bring rural population in contact with the department of posts.
Enable banking operations in the department of posts will increase the traffic of rural population and they will use banking services. Consequently, mail operation process will be improved with automated booking and delivery of accountable articles and make disbursements for social security schemes such as MGNREGS.
