Bhopal Railway Station First to Install Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines

  • Bhopal Junction Railway station became the first and the only railway station in India to have sanitary napkin vending machine installed in the station.
  • Railway Women Welfare Association of Bhopal installed a sanitary napkin vending machine. 'Happy Nari', it is an attempt at providing sanitary pads to women at an affordable price.
  • One can simply put a coin of Rs. 5 in the sanitary napkin vending machine at Bhopal Junction railway station and get two sanitary pads in return.
  • The machine named ‘Happy Nari’ was set up on 1st January 2018 and inaugurated by the senior-most Class Four worker, Anjali Thakur, in the presence of other railway officials.
  • The machine has the capacity to store 75 napkins at a time which would be refilled by a female staff attendant at the waiting room who has received specific training for it.
  • The machine makes sanitary napkins easily available and accessible for the female passengers.
  • These ‘Happy Nari’ machines will be advertised by the railways so that the female passengers are aware of the facility and can make optimum use of it.
  • It is a very noble effort in order to ease the travelling experiences for women passengers
