Delhi Declaration of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit

In order to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the ASEAN-Indian Dialogue Relations, the heads of the state/government of the member states of ASEAN and the Republic of India gathered in New Delhi on 25th January 2018.
  • The theme of the 25th Anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialogue Relations was "Shared Values, Common Destiny”.
  • According to the ASEAN-Indian Commemorative Summit, they resolve to work together with the international community in order to ensure compliance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions (regarding counter terrorism) and to note efforts on the negotiations of the CCIT (Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism) at the United Nations. 

Highlights of the Commemorative Summit

  • They have decided to deepen cooperation in combating terrorism through information sharing, capacity building and reiterated their commitment to battle the menace by disrupting and countering terror groups.
  • Reaffirm the commitment to work closely together on common regional and international security issues of mutual concern and ensure an open, transparent, inclusive and rules-based regional architecture through existing ASEAN-led frameworks.
  • Work together to prevent and manage accidents and incidents at sea and promote effective coordination between ASEAN and India in maritime search and rescue
  • Work together with the international community to ensure compliance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding counter-terrorism, and to note efforts on the negotiations of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) at the United Nations.
  • The group also extended their support to the implementation of the Langkawi Declaration on the Global Movement of Moderates to promote peace, security, upholding rule of law, sustainable and inclusive development, equitable growth and social harmony.
  • They will work to strengthen cooperation between the ASEAN and India on cyber-security capacity building and policy coordination, including through supporting the implementation of the ASEAN Cybersecurity Cooperation Strategy.
  • The countries resolved to work together to prevent and manage accidents and incidents at sea and promote effective coordination between the ASEAN and India in maritime search and rescue.
