Haryana to be the first to launch High Risk Pregnancy Portal

Published on January 09, 2018
Haryana has become the first state in India to launch the High-Risk Pregnancy (HRP) Portal.

Haryana to be the first to launch High Risk Pregnancy Portal

  • This portal helps in easy identification of high-risk pregnancy cases up to the grassroots level and ensures that these cases are referred timely to the civil hospitals for further management and delivery by the specialists.
  • The High-Risk Pregnancy Policy was implemented across Haryana in November 2017 for identifying 100% name-based high-risk pregnancy cases and ensuring their delivery by specialists in civil hospitals.
  • The initiative has been lauded by the Niti Aayog and the Union Ministry of Health and family welfare.
  • This innovative web application has been designed to track every high risk pregnant woman till 42 days after delivery so that she receives adequate treatment during the ante-natal period so as to ensure a healthy outcome of the pregnancy.
  • Haryana has also implemented birth companion strategy under which one female attendant would be allowed in the labour room at the time of delivery. The presence of a female birth companion would improve the quality of care inside the labour rooms for improving the maternal and neo-natal outcome and for proper maternity care.
  • The National health Mission Director Amneet P Kumar mentioned that instructions have been issued to all civil surgeons for 100% entry of high risk pregnant cases in the HPR portal.

Benefits of this porta

  • This initiative will decrease the pace of decline in maternal mortality rate (MMR), infant mortality rate (IMR) and still birth incidence as chances of morbidity and mortality are quite high in high-risk pregnancy cases if they are not managed in time. This portal will help in easy and earlier identification of such cases and would ensure its timely referral to the respective civil hospitals.
