Khelo India School Games 2018, a brainchild of Olympian and sports minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, will be held at multiple venues across Delhi from 31st January 2018
- Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore launched the Anthem for his ‘Khelo India’ campaign with an aim to encourage mass participation and promote excellence in sports.
- Khelo India is an ambitious programme of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports which aims to look out for talent at the grass root level and provide a substantial long-term scholarship to those. It will help in the long-term professional development of athletes.
- The Khelo India School Games will play a pivotal role in this movement, by encouraging participation among youngsters.
- The school games will include16 sports disciplines such as Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Shooting, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
- Apart from launching the Anthem, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore unveiled the mascots (Vijay the tiger and Jaya the black buck) for the Khelo India School Games 2018.
- The anthem is conceptualized by Ogilvy, composed by Louis Bank and the film has been produced by Nirvana Films.
- Khelo India School Games are being organised for the under-17 group and will be held at multiple venues across Delhi in 16 different disciplines from January 31 to February 8.
- This government initiative aims to make school sports aspirational and enable the development of sporting culture among the youth.
- Star Sports has partnered with the government for the telecast of these games which are set to begin on January 31.
- The company plans to telecast the games on three of its channels — Star Sports 1, Star Sports-HD and its free-to-air sports channel, Star Sports First. In addition, the games will be available on its digital platform, Hotstar.
