The Sports Minister launched the Khelo India logo at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

  • The three-stroke Khelo India logo designed by Ogilvy India has built-in modularity which offers flexibility in adapting to numerous pictorial forms.
  • The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore, stated that Khelo India would go a long way in achieving the twin objectives of mass participation and promotion of excellence in sports.
  • Khelo India School Games will be staged from January 31.
  • The Khelo India School Games, organised in collaboration with SGFI and the National sports federations, will be broadcast by Star Sports.

What is Khelo India Scheme?

Khelo India scheme is a revamped scheme which was launched after merging Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan, Urban Infrastructure Scheme - To provide quality sports and National Sports Talent Search.

Objectives of the scheme

Mass participation of youth in annual sports competitions through a structured competition;
Identification of talent
Guidance and nurturing of the talent through existing sports academies and new set up either by the Central Government or State Government or in PPP mode.
Creation of Sports Infrastructure at mofussil, Tehsil, District, State levels, etc

Features of the scheme

  • The scheme will cover 1,000 most talented young athletes each year across select sports disciplines and each athlete selected under the scheme will receive an annual scholarship worth Rs.5lakh for eight consecutive years. 
  • The cost under this scheme will be Rs 1,756 crore, the scheme will promote 20 universities across India as hubs of sporting excellence. 
  • It will cover about 200 million children in the age group of 10-18 under a massive national physical fitness drive and create an active population with a healthy lifestyle. 
  • The Khelo India programme strives to promote “Sports for All” as well as “Sports for Excellence”, it is a gift for talented youngsters to excel in competitive sports.
