The government of India decided to celebrate January 25 every year as 'National Voters' Day' to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process. It began from January 25, 2011 to mark Election Commission's Foundation day.
- The theme of this year's National Voters' day is 'Accessible Elections', which expressed the ECI's pursuit of working towards making the electoral process more inclusive and friendly for disabled persons.
- The Election Commission of India (ECI) celebrated the National Voters Day and vowed to live up to peoples expectations of "neutrality, fairness, transparency and professionalism".
- The first edition of 'VoICE India' - a biannual magazine which brings forth best practices, innovations and knowledge derived from practical experience and success stories of the election machinery from across the country was launched by the President of India.
About Election Commission of India
The Election Commission of India was constituted on January 25, 1950. ECI is an autonomous constitutional body that oversee the election process in India. It works under the authority of Constitution per Article 324. Om Prakash Rawat is presently serving as the Chief Election Commissioner of India.
