The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was awarded National Intellectual Property (IP) Award 2018.
- It received the award in the category “Top R&D Institution/Organization for Patents and Commercialization”.
- This award is awarded annually by Indian Intellectual Property Office (under Ministry of Commerce and Industry) in various categories.
- The award was conferred by Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu, at a function organised by the Indian Intellectual Property Office and Confederation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (CII).
- The Indian Intellectual Property Office confers National Intellectual Property (IP) Award on outstanding innovators, organisations and companies in the fields of patents, designs, trademarks and geographical indications on the occasion of World IP Day every year.

- The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research is a contemporary research and development organisation established in 1942.
- It runs 38 laboratories and 39 field stations throughout the nation, with a collective staff of over 12,000 scientists and scientific and technical personnel.
- It has been ranked 9th in the world amongst 1207 government institutions, with an overall global ranking of 75 amongst 5250 institutions.
- Although it is mainly funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, it operates as an autonomous body through the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
