- It was jointly organized by National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) and Department of Social Work (Delhi School of Social Work), University of Delhi.
- Dr. Martha Farrell was posthumously honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award during this edition of congress for her lifelong work towards gender equality, women's empowerment and prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.

- The theme of 6th ISWC 2018 was "Human Development and Social Inclusion: Imperatives for Social Work Education and Practice".
- This theme takes into consideration contemporary concerns of local to international community within present context and in consonance with the social work value framework.
The 6th ISWC2016 aimed to:
- Provide a platform to social work professionals to discuss and deliberate on issues related to human development.
- Engage with issues related to Social Justice and Inclusion, within context of social work education, research and practice.
- Address diverse issues and challenges pertaining to human development and social justice vis-à-vis social work profession in rapidly transforming socio-political and economic landscape.
- Exchange experiences of social work educators, researchers and development practitioners to augment networks and coalitions of social workers for invigorating social work profession.
