- He was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery in December 1980.
- He is an alumnus of Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, National Defence College (NDC), Delhi.

- He has rich operational and staff experience with distinction of serving in operational environments such as Counter Insurgency area in the North East & Counter Terrorist Operations in Jammu and Kashmir, High Altitude Area, apart from United Nations Peacekeeping Operations.
- During 38 years of his illustrious career, he has commanded Artillery Regiment during Operation Parakram, Infantry Brigade at Line of Control (LoC), Counter Insurgency Force in J&K and Corps in the desert sector.
Integrated Defence Staff:
- Government had established Integrated Defence Staff, headed by Chief of Integrated Staff as Chairman (who enjoys status equivalent to that of Vice Chief of Service) to ensure high degree of synergy between Armed forces.
- It acts as a point organisation for integration of policy, doctrine, war fighting and procurement by employing best management practices.
- It was created on 1 October 2001 based on recommendations of Group of Ministers which was set up in 2000 (post-Kargil) to review India's defence management.
