President Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to grace the occasion.
  • South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on the sidelines of the G-20 summit that was being organised in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina.

  • Next year will also mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, tweeted PM Modi saying that it was an honour to welcome the South African President given Bapu's strong links to the country are well known.
  • According to Prime Minister Modi, President Ramaphosa's visit will further strengthen business ties between the two countries. 
  • Meanwhile, South Africa celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of their first black head of state, Nelson Mandela, popularly called Madiba who died in 2013 at the age of 95.
  • Reportedly, the US president's "domestic commitments", including his State of the Union address, around that time seemed to have been the reason for declining the invitation.
