Government aids SHGs to Empower Women

  • The Finance Minister has proposed to make a shift in approach from women-centric-policy making to women-led initiatives/movements
  • A major boost to women SHGs is given by allowing an overdraft of Rs.5,000 for every verified woman SHG member having a Jan Dhan Bank account
    Government aids SHGs to Empower Women
  • One woman in every SHG will be eligible for a loan up to Rs. 1 lakh under MUDRA Scheme
  • Women SHG interest subvention program will be expanded to all districts

About SHGs:

  • Self-Help Group (SHG) is a small voluntary association of poor people, preferably from the same socio-economic background with 15-20 members in a group
  • The SHG promotes small savings among its members and keep with a bank and use the money in an emergency, a disaster for social reasons, economic support etc.
