IAF gets 4 Apache Helicopters from US

Current context: The Indian Air force has received the first four of the 22 Apache helicopters from US aerospace Boeing.

  • The AH-64E Apache helicopters are received after 4 years of a multi-billion dollar deal for choppers that took place on September 2015.
  • The 4 apache helicopters will be taken over at Hindan airbase and then move to the Pathankot Air Force station for formal induction by the IAF.
  • Apache is the only combat helicopter with a spectrum of capabilities for any mission requirement with greater thrust and lift, improved survivability, digital operability etc.
  • The AH-64E Apache is one of the world's most advanced multi-role helicopter and is uniquely made to suit the commander’s need including qualities like reconnaissance, security, peacekeeping operations in both land and littoral environment.
  • The US company has delivered around 2200 apache helicopters across the world and India is the 14th nation to receive it.
