Current context: Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been appointed as the next Vice Chief of the Indian army
Manoj Mukund Naravane appointed as VC of Indian Army
  • Naravane will replace Lieutenant General D Anbu on 31st August 2019
  • Naravane was commissioned into the 7th Sikh Light Infantry on June 1980
  • He is currently the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Army Command
  • Lt Gen Naravane will be the senior-most commander when incumbent Gen Bipin Rawat retires on December 31 and thus will be in contention for the Army chief’s post (Chief of the Army Staff)
  • Lt Gen Naravane has served in numerous operations and commanded a Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and an Infantry Brigade on the eastern front
  • Other top appointments include Lieutenant General R.P. Singh, who will take over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Army Command
  • Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan will take over the Eastern Command. Lieutenant General A.S. Kler, has been appointed General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the South-Western Command. Lieutenant General I.S. Ghuman will take charge of the Central Command
