Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojana

Current context: Uttar Pradesh became the number one state in implementation of the PM Suraksha Beema Yojna in the country.

• PMSBY is an accident insurance scheme that offers accidental death and disability cover for one-year, which can be renewed annually.
• The scheme is scheduled to operate from June 1 to May 31 of the subsequent year. The subscriber is given an option to join/pay by auto-debit by May 31 of every year.
• PMSBY cover accidents, disability and death resulting from natural calamities and death due to murder is covered under PMSBY whereas death due to suicide is not covered.
• Under PMSBY, up to Rs 2 lakh of risk coverage is available for accidental death and total permanent disability, and Rs 1 lakh for permanent partial disability.
• All individual and even NRIs in the 18-70 year age group with a (single or joint) bank account including are eligible to join PMSBY.
• Permanent total disability is defined as irrecoverable/total loss of both eyes or loss of use of both hands/feet or loss of eyesight and loss of use of a hand/foot.
• Permanent partial disability is defined as total/irrecoverable loss of an eyesight or loss of use of a hand/foot.
• The subscriber has the option to take benefit of the cover in addition to any other insurance plan.
