University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a STRIDE scheme to boost research culture and innovation in colleges & universities.

- STRIDE stands for "Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India's Developing Economy".
Details about STRIDE:
- Its objective is to identify young talent, build capacity, strengthen research culture, support trans-disciplinary research and promote innovation for India's developing economy and national development.
- This new initiative will seek to support the local need-based, socially relevant, nationally important and globally significant research project.
- An advisory Bhushan Patwardhan committee set up by UGC under the chairmanship of Professor Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, UGC will oversee the entire scheme.
Three Components of STRIDE:
- Attempting to identify motivated young talents with research and innovation aptitude in colleges and universities. This component is open to all disciplines (subjects) for a grant up to Rs.1 crore.
- Encouraging collaborations between universities, government, industries and voluntary organizations. This component is open to all disciplines for granting up to Rs.50 lakh to 1 crore.
- Funding high impact research projects in humanities and Social Sciences via a national network of eminent scientists from leading institutions of the country. Grant available for this component is up to Rs.1 crore for one High Educational Institute (HEI) and up to Rs.5 crores for the multi-institutional network.
One must know:
- STRIDE web portal will be open for receiving applications by 31st July 2019.
