Fish Species Discovered in Arunachal Pradesh

Current context: Zoology Researchers of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) have discovered 5 new fish species across various districts of the state.
Fish Species Discovered in Arunachal Pradesh
The scientific names of the newly-discovered fish species are:
  • Exostoma kottelati, found in Ranga river in Lower Subansiri district
  • Mystus prabini, found in Sinkin and Dibang rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district
  • Physoschistura harkishorei, found in Dibang and Lohit rivers in Lower Dibang Valley district
  • Garra ranganensis, found in Ranga river
  • Creteuchiloglanis tawangensis, found in the Tawangchu river in Tawang district
  • The water bodies in A.P. in remote areas are not easily accessible to the researchers due to a difficult terrain
  • The Zoology team of RGU was led by Professor DN Das
