Current context: 16th Global SME Business Summit 2019 has been inaugurated by the Ministry of MSME in New Delhi on 24th September 2019.

- The Summit is organized every year by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).
- The theme of the summit for this year is “Making Indian MSMEs Globally Competitive”.
- It focuses on measures to be taken by the government to increase MSME’s present share of 29% of GDP to 50% in the next 5 years and raise its export contribution from 49 % to 60 %.
- Panel discussion on ‘Can MSME’s Contribute 50 per cent to Indian’s GDP?’ was organised with delegated from 15 countries.
- A digital MSME portal is in the process to be developed by the Ministry to provide a platform to over 75 lakh currently registered MSMEs with the Ministry, where they can interact globally to fulfil their requirements for funding, knowledge etc.
- Workshops will be held on Trade through E-Commerce Digitization besides Country and Regional sessions in the summit.
