Current context: The 7th High Level Joint Task Force on Investments meeting between UAE-India took place on 22nd September 2019 in Abu Dhabi.
7th High Level Joint Task Force on Investments Meeting
  • The meeting was held to enhance trade and investment between the two countries.
  • Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry was the representative from India.
  • The task force was initiated in 2012.
  • The main bilateral agreement signed between the countries is related to:
    • Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT)
    • UAE’s contribution to India’s strategic petroleum reserve.
    • ADIA’s participation in India’s National Infrastructure Investment Fund as the first foreign institutional investor.
  • Both the countries reviewed the functioning of ‘UAE PLUS’ special desk and the ‘Fast Track Mechanism’ established at the 6th HLTFI for facilitating UAE investment into India.
  • In January 2017, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi have signed the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, to promote economic ties between the UAE and India.
