Rajasthan launched the “ Jan Soochna Portal”

Current context: Rajasthan has launched the first-ever public information portal on the line of the RTI.

• The portal has promised to provide information about government authorities and departments suo motu to the public in the true spirit of the Right To Information Act, 2005.
• Rajasthan, where the RTI movement had started in 1990s has become the 1st state in the country to launch a public portal for providing governmental information to the public.
• The State government has collaborated with the civil society groups to develop the portal.
• The portal would initially provide information about 13 departments on a single platform.
• The information will be provided about things such as works undertaken in different areas, land records, the number of beneficiaries of schemes, and social security pensions etc.
• The portal named the “Jan Soochna Portal-2019”, would be in compliance with section (4) of the RTI Act that mandates the public authorities to disclose information in the public domain.
