  • International Day of Rural Women was celebrated on 15th October to embark rural women on the path of entrepreneurship and self reliance to achieve equitable and sustainable development.
  • Due to higher prices of food items, Retail inflation spiked to 3.99 % in September 2019 as against the consumer price index (CPI) registered at 3.28% in August 2019. The inflation for vegetables shot up to 15.40% in September. The inflation in September 2018 was 3.7%.
  • The World Trade Organization, WTO, has given nod to the United States to impose trade sanctions on up to $ 7.5 billion worth of European Union goods. The ruling was given after it was found that the European bloc and member States Britain, France, Germany and Spain failed to remove improper subsidies for Airbus (European planemaker) that hindered sales by US rival Boeing.

  • FIFA World Cup Qualifier match between India and Bangladesh at Kolkata has ended in a draw with both the teams scoring one goal each. Adil Khan scoored the goal for India and Saad Uddin for Bangladesh.
  • Sourav Ganguly (Former Indian cricket captain) has been unanimously nominated as the new President of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). BCCI has also selected Arun Dhumal as Treasurer and Jay Shah as Secretary of the institution.
