  • The central government has released Rs 35,298 crore GST compensation to States and Union Territories. The states are expected to raise the matter of delay in the release of compensation and measures to raise revenue in the next GST council meeting on 18th Dec 19.
  • The Supreme Court bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose gave direction to set up two designated courts in districts having more than 300 FIRs under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The special courts will deal with only such cases under the law.

  • Indian troops deployed with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) received the prestigious United Nations medal for their service and contribution to building peace in the conflict-affected nation. India is among the largest troop contributing countries to UN peacekeeping operations.
  • Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa will attend the 2nd meeting of the Organising Committee on the celebrations for the 150th Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, on his 2-day visit to India. Mr Costa's was re-elected as Prime Minister on 6th October 19.
