Current context: International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed on 3rd December every year across the world.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities 
  • The day is observed to increase awareness about the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and their development.
  • This year the theme is “Promoting the Participation of Persons with Disabilities and their leadership: Taking Action on the 2030 Development Agenda”.
  • The theme has been chosen for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development of persons with disabilities, as anticipated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • The day is observed after its proclamation in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution.
  • The International Day of the People with Disabilities is also known as World Disabled Day.
  • 1981 was notified as the International Year of Disabled Persons by the United Nations General Assembly.
