- The NBM is a part of the National Digital Communications Policy, 2018.
- The mission will secure universal broadband access for the implementation of broadband initiatives.
- Ravi Shankar Prasad also launched the Logo of the NBM on the occasion.
- The vision of the NBM is to provide:
- Fast track growth of digital communications infrastructure
- Bridge the digital divide
- Facilitate digital empowerment and inclusion
- Provide affordable and universal access to broadband for all
- The target set under the NBM includes:
- Broadband access to all villages by 2022
- Laying of incremental 30 lakhs km route of Optical Fiber Cable by 2024
- Develop a Broadband Readiness Index (BRI) to measure the availability of digital communications infrastructure
- Investment of $ 100 billion (Rs 7 Lakh Crore) from stakeholders including Rs 70,000 crore from Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF)
