Current context: ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) successfully launched its 50th mission RISAT-2BR1 on 11th Dec 19.

  • The PSLV (PSLV-C48), launched its fiftieth flight RISAT-2BR1 along with nine commercial satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.
  • The RISAT-2BR1 was successfully injected into the orbit of 576km after 16 minutes and 23 seconds of its launch from the First LaunchPad.
  • Chairman, ISRO, Dr K. Sivan released a book titled ‘PSLV@ 50’ on this occasion.
  • RISAT-2BR1 is a radar imaging earth observation satellite and has a mission life of 5 years.
  • The satellite will provide services in the field of Agriculture, Forestry and Disaster Management.
  • The 9 commercial satellites belong to Israel, Italy, Japan and USA and were successfully injected into their designated orbits.
  • Besides being the 50th launch of PSLV, RISAT-2BR1 launch was also the 75th launch vehicle mission from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota.
