Current context: The world Human Rights Day is celebrated on 10th December every year.
World Human Rights Day 
  • The day is observed to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
  • The UDHR was adopted as the shared standard yardstick to protect human rights across the globe by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948.
  • It lays the foundation of the equal and inalienable rights of mankind as the foundation of justice, freedom and peace in the world.
  • This year’s theme of Human Rights Day is “Youth Standing up for Human Rights”.
  • The theme aimed to encourage youth all over the world to take action and Stand Up for Human Rights.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will address the gathering organised by the National Human Rights Commission as the Chief Guest on this day in New Delhi.
  • At the occasion, NHRC Chairman Justice H. L. Dattu will release NHRC journals and DVD of award winning short films on human rights.
