- The Army Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the day when General KM Carriappa took over the command of Army and became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army after Independence.
- The command was taken over from General Sir FRR Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949.
- On this day, Army Day Parade is held at the Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment along with this military shows are held at the national capital and headquarters.
- This will be the first time that a woman Army officer, Tanai Sher Gill will lead the parade.
- Gallantry award is given for outstanding performance during operations and peacetime by the Army Chief.
- The Army was established on 1st April 1895.
