- The 3rd Apex Conference of the Smart Cities is being organized on 24th-25th January 2020 at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The 1st Apex Conference was held in Bhopal (2018) while the 2nd happened in New Delhi (2019).

- Election Commission of India has decided to institute an Annual Lecture Series as a tribute to the first Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sukumar Sen (1898-1963). Sukumar Sen had conducted the first two General Elections to the Lok Sabha held in 1952 and 1957 simultaneously with the State Legislative Assemblies.
- 123rd Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is being observed on 23rd January 2020 across the country. It was on this day in 1897, Netaji was born in Cuttack, Odisha.
- Union Cabinet on 23rd January 2020 approved to Revised Cost Estimates for the establishment of permanent campuses of new National Institutes of Technology, NITs, at a total cost of Rs 4371.90 crore for the period till 2021-2022.
