  • Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index is released by the World Economic Forum. 
  • In the year 2019, India’s rank in the Index has moved to 34th position from 65th rank in 2013.
  • Foreign Tourist Arrivals has registered a growth of 3.2 % in the year 2019 in India
  • Among the initiatives taken by the Tourism Ministry in 2019 to promote tourism in the country, the major highlights are:
    1. Reducing E-visa fees
    2. Decreasing GST rates on hotel room booking
    3. Opening 120 new peaks for mountaineering: Government has opened more than 120 mountain peaks for mountaineering and trekking for promoting adventure tourism in the country.
    4. Steps taken under Swadesh Darshan: to develop thematic circuits across the country
    5. PRASHAD Scheme
    6. 'Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan': initiative is launched for developing tourist amenities at heritage and tourist sites.
    7. Various other events of Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat
  • The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report was first published in 2007 by the World Economic Forum.
