  • The day is commemorated every year with the objective to promote the use of Hindi language abroad.
  • The First World Hindi Conference was organized on this day in 1975 in Nagpur to promote the language worldwide.
  • Since then 10th January is being observed as World Hindi Day.
  • Hindi is India’s official language and is spoken by more than 250 million people across the World.
  • Under Article 343, the official language of the Union has been prescribed and Hindi was declared as an official language but not the national language.
  • The Department of Official Language – Rajbhasha, Government of India organises several special programmes to mark the day.
  • Hindi is adopted as an official language of Pacific Island country Fiji.
