Govt Sanctioned 32 Projects under PMKSY

Current context: The Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC) has sanctioned a total of 32 projects under the ‘Unit’ scheme of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) on 27th February 2020.
Govt Sanctioned 32 Projects under PMKSY 
  • The IMAC meeting was presided over by Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
  • The 32 projects sanctioned will be spread over 17 states and will leverage an investment of Rs 406 crore.
  • The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing the PMKSY scheme for a period from 2016-20 with a total outlay of Rs 6,000 crore.
  • The main objective of this Scheme is the creation of processing and preservation capacities and modernisation/ expansion of existing food processing units.
  • It aims to increase the level of processing, value addition leading to reduction of wastage.
  • The PMKSY has seven component schemes:
    1. Mega Food Parks
    2. Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure
    3. Infrastructure for Agro-Processing Clusters
    4. Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages
    5. Creation/Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities
    6. Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure
    7. Human Resources and Institutions
