Current context: The National Deworming Day is being observed across the country on 10th Feb 2020.
National Deworming Day
  • On the occasion of the National Deworming Day, Children and adolescents in the age group of 1 to 19 years are being administered a single dose of a safe medicine Albendazole in all states and Union Territories.
  • The objective of the day is to deworm all preschool and school-age children (enrolled and non-enrolled) between the ages of 1-19 years, to reduce the prevalence of parasitic worms in the intestine.
  • The National Deworming Day proceeds the deworming through the platform of schools and Anganwadi Centers in order to improve the overall health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life.
  • The children and adolescents can also get dewormed on the 17th Feb 2020, who miss the dose on 10th Feb.
  • The Health Ministry has issued instructions for washing hands to prevent worm infestation and many other diseases to a larger extent.
  • The National Deworming Day is an initiative of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to make every child in the country worm free.
