Current context: A National Water Conference is being held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on 11th Feb 2020.

  • The Conference is being inaugurated by Chief Minister Kamal Nath.
  • The National Water Conference is being held in order to solve water crisis and make the state a water-rich state.
  • The purpose of the conference is to finalize the guidelines for the ‘Water Rights Act’ or ‘Right of water Act’ in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Madhya Pradesh Government has announced to implement the Water Rights Act in the state and will be the first state in the country where this law will be implemented.
  • The conference focused on the importance and revival of traditional water sources, right to water, river rejuvenation campaign in Madhya Pradesh etc.
  • The NWC will be held in four sessions on the subjects:
    1. ‘Importance of Traditional Water Bodies Structures, its Rejuvenation in Implementation of Water Right Act’.
    2. ‘Right to Water- Role of Multi-Stakeholders- Approach’.
    3. Madhya Pradesh River Rejuvenation Campaign, replicable best practices and solutions for Madhya Pradesh.
    4. An open discussion on the views presented at the Conference.
