Current context: The first anniversary of Central Sector Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is being observed on 24th February 2020.
PM-KISAN Scheme Completed 1 Year 
  • The central government has said that a total of Rs 50,850 crore has been disbursed to farmers so far under the PM-KISAN scheme.
  • The PM-KISAN scheme was formally launched on 24th February 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 6,000 per year is transferred by the Centre in three equal instalments of 2000 rupees in every four months, directly into the bank accounts of the farmers.
  • The scheme was launched with the objective:
    1. To provide income support to all landholding farmers’ families across the country.
    2. To enable them to meet expenses related to agriculture as well as domestic needs.
  • About 14 crore beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme, based on the estimates of the Agriculture Census 2015-16.
  • The scheme initially provided income support to all small and marginal farmers' families across the country, holding cultivable land up to 2 hectares.
  • The scheme’s ambit was later expanded to cover all farmer families in the country irrespective of the size of the landholding.
