  • Canadian scientists have managed to isolate the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the agent responsible for the outbreak of COVID-19. Indian-origin postdoctoral researcher Arinjay Banerjee was part of the team of Canadian scientists.
  • Shivraj Singh Chouhan has become the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh for the fourth time (1st in 2005, 2nd in 2008 and 3rd in 2013). He was administered the oath by the Governor Lalji Tandon at Raj Bhawan on 23rd March 2020.

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has decided to tax non-resident Indians by putting a threshold of Rs 15 lakh for the levy of tax on incomes emanating from India, leaving out global incomes from the tax ambit.
  • The National Health Authority (NHA) has decided to cover Covid-19 treatment of the poorest of the poor in private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat. NHA will cover the treatment cost under its viral infection packages.
