Current Context: The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $1.5 billion loan that will support the government's response to the novel coronavirus disease pandemic.

  • The loan amount will be utilized by India to fulfill its immediate priorities like disease contentment and prevention, social protection for poor, and economically weak sections of the society.
  • The loan amount has been sanctioned under ADBs COVID-19 Active Response and Expenditure Support Program (CARES).
